Influenced by the mercurial weather of my homeland Ireland, I developed an interest in capturing light in my paintings. Following on from investigations into light and how the eye and brain perceive it, I began to research Neolithic Irish Cairns and the period of humanity known as prehistory.
I found that investigating and grounding my work in this breadth of time has given clarity of thought that allows me to create images, that while complex in their simplicity, are also managing to connect with our «Zeitgeist».
By using simultaneous contrast in my palette, I want light and colour to be felt as a physical experience by the viewer. This sensation is brought about by the intensity that comes from the tangible energy of light that we absorb. I aim to create light out of darkness right at the centre of consciousness, fulfilling no purpose other than to exist.
